FAQ #1: Covering the Basics

I'm going to answer a few questions people might have, very generally. If you are interested in more detailed versions of anything here or have other questions, just ask and I will be happy to elaborate.

Where we live:
Kaz is in my hometown in North Carolina. I live in Virginia, but I frequently go between Virginia and NC.

How long have we been dating?
Only seven and a half months.

 How did we started dating?
We met via the Coffee Meets Bagel app. After a week or so of chatting, we went on our first date, and our second date the night after. He asked me out at the end of the second date.

Have we met the families?
He has celebrated multiple holidays with my family. I plan to go to Japan in June to meet his.

How did our families react?
My family has always been completely fine with interracial dating. His mom told him to take good care of me, and 'likes' our pictures on Facebook. His father didn't disapprove, but he told Kaz to be cautious when it comes to intercultural relationships.

Any plans for marriage?
We have talked about it before but we're not at that point just yet!

Do we speak mostly Japanese or English?
90-95% English. Kaz prefers it over speaking Japanese. I have studied Japanese but I have not studied diligently in a good while.

What do we do?
We're both mere, lowly, humble grad students.

Why do we call ourselves Kazzy and Decchan?
Decchan was a nickname given to me by a friend when I studied abroad a few years ago. Kazzy is Kaz's favorite nickname out of the 10+ ones I call him.

Nobita featured me in another of his Find Your Love in Japan videos, this time on whether Asian parents disapproved of their child's interracial relationship. Thank you again, Nobita! As I mentioned in the video, Kazzy's parents seem pretty chill about our relationship. I feel really fortunate on that front. I had heard of many heterosexual couples where the (Asian) guy tries to hide the fact that he's dating someone outside of his culture, especially if she is black. I was fully prepared for him to conceal our relationship from his parents. However, he made no special effort to hide me over what he would have done for any other girl. He just doesn't talk about it with his parents, which I understand, because neither do I. Kaz's mom found out when Kaz shared pictures of us from Thanksgiving and getting a Christmas tree on Facebook. ~*~ At The Gala ~*~

Have you ever fangirled over your significant other? Because I definitely did yesterday. Kaz and I attended his school's Spring Gala. And can you blame me? He was hecka handsome. Hi. To thank him for the tickets, I bought him a bow tie from Brooks Brothers. It took him an hour to tie it after asking, "It can't be that hard, right?" He did a perfect job, though. Bein' James Bond and ish. I got my hair done by Kyle at MAC (super sweet guy; he had previously given me a free replacement for my makeup pad that came apart, so I requested him for makeup) and my makeup done by Jill at  Taji Salon  (super sweet girl; she took me early and I was done before my appointment time [I shampooed and conditioned earlier that day though, because my appointment time was cutting it close.]) Of course the only clutter in the room finds its way into the picture. I'm in Japan! Sorry About Last Week.

I'm sorry I didn't make a blog post last week. Kaz brought back a cold from Spain and shared it with me. During the time I'm in Japan, I will probably put more effort into vlogs than blogs, but I will probably still make a few posts. I have two planned that I will post today and/or tomorrow. ~Decchan
